Christian Bale Believes It’s Brave Of Joaquin Phoenix To Play Joker
Christian Bale said that Joaquin Phoenix was very brave to follow up to Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker
One of the best films to come out of Hollywood and the DC comics was The Dark Knight trilogy. Hollywood star Christian Bale starred as the mysterious Batman in 2005, alongside some of the finest actors of the industry helmed by ace filmmaker Christopher Nolan. While the first part of the series, Batman Begins was loved by many, it was the second installment, The Dark Knight that set a new benchmark. Bale starred with late actor Heath Ledger who played the iconic character Joker in the 2008 film. Ledger had passed away six months before the release of the film which earned him an Oscar posthumously. Now Joaquin Phoenix is taking up the role in the upcoming film of the same name.
Speaking of Phoenix taking on Joker’s role in Todd Phillips, Bale said, “It’s a brave thing to follow up to that performance and Phoenix always makes interesting choices. I’m dying to see it. I wish him the best with that.”
The actor also commented on Robert Pattinson now being cast to play Batman. “Good choice, he’s interesting. I’m sure he’ll come up with something interesting.”
Bale was at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) when he made the comments. He was promoting his next film, Ford v Ferrari in which he stars with Matt Damon. The film, directed by James Mangold, revolves around a Ford race car with a potential to defeat the dominant Ferrari in the 1966 Le Mans race in France. Mangold, however, said that his connection to the film wasn’t really through racing. “I felt something similar to what we feel making movies. Every movie is live or die. Every movie feels like you’ll be destroyed if it doesn’t work out. You’re always fighting and yelling for the space to create.” Ford v Ferrari is all set to hit screens worldwide on November 15, 2019.
