Bollywood actor Varun Sharma recently starred in the hit film Chhichhore starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor amongst many others. The actor who made his debut with 2013's Fukrey was famously known as Choocha after the film, but it seems like his new nickname might be coming from his latest hit. Now being recognised as Sexa, Varun's character's original name in the film is Gurmeet. He's only better known as Sexa because of his nature. But the actor stresses that Sexa is not a creep. In his latest interview with Scroll Varun spilled the beans on being recognised from his characters' names and landing comic roles for each film being offered to him.
The star said, "For the longest time, people called me Choocha. It was a mark of validation that my work was good. If I am now known as Sexa, that’s a big achievement, as Choocha set the benchmark. If you think of cinema’s memorable characters, you think of Munnabhai, Circuit, Gabbar. If my character’s name is there, nothing like it." Varun was born in Jalandhar and had always wanted to be an actor. He got his bachelor's degree in Media, Entertainment and Film Technology in Chandigarh and later went on to join a theatre group.
But it was only until Fukrey that the actor managed to break it in Bollywood. He also received a Filmfare award nomination for his role. Varun's character from the film was adored by many, which he reprised in 2017 with the film's second installment, Fukrey Returns. The 29-year-old artist currently has over 10 films under his name. He will be seen next in Hardik Mehta's horror comedy called Roohi Afza along with Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. But Varun wants to be cast in a thriller soon and that might just be happening for him very soon as he already has dates locked in for the next two years.
