Cher Blasts Wendy Williams on Social Media for Making Fun of Joaquin Phoenix's Cleft Scar
Wendy Williams has been receiving a lot of backlash on social media for making fun of Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft scar on her talk show
Television show host Wendy Williams has been receiving a lot of criticism for making fun of Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft scar. During a recent episode of her talk show, Wendy pulled her lip up with her finger to mock Joaquin’s condition and said, "When he shaves off his mustache he's got a hairline fracture. He's got one of those -- what do you call it? Cleft lip, cleft palate." While her show’s audience laughed, her gesture led to a lot of outrage on social media and intense criticism from American singer and actress Cher, among others.

Taking to Twitter, Cher wrote, “I was going to try and hold my temper but I’m so f-ng angry I can’t. In 1985 I made a film called Mask!! Through that film I became involved with children and adults who had craniofacial anomalies. You have no idea what these ppl go through!! 20+ operations before their teens!! Much of the time they are in pain, afraid, but have hope they will look normal. The heartbreak and fear their parents go through is unbearable. If your mom saw what you did she’d be ashamed. My mom taught me to love & help ppl in pain. Who are u!? U should b fired.”
Wendy responded to the backlash by apologising for her insensitivity and even donating to organisations which are helping children with cleft palates. However, Cher is in no mood to accept Wendy’s apology. She again tweeted a picture from the show and asked, “Does an apology make up for this?” She added that there could be no apology for what she did, as children and adults with this condition and their parents “go through hell”. She said Wendy only apologised because she wanted to keep her job. Canadian Football linebacker Adam Bighill also called out Wendy saying she was promoting bullying on her show.
