Udit Narayan was born in Nepal and came to India in 1978 on a music scholarship. His first major success as a playback singer in Bollywood was the 1988 film "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", which fetched him a Filmfare award for the song "Papa Kehte Hain".
Since then he has won many awards including four more Filmfare awards and three National Awards.
The singer with the soft, mellifluous voice has recorded over 15,000 songs in 30 different languages.
His Bollywood hits include "Mehendi Lagake Rakhna", "Pardesi Pardesi", "Dil To Pagal Hai", "Pehla Nasha", "Kaho Na Pyar Hai" and "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai".
Narayan is also a leading playback singer in Nepalese films and has also acted in some movie there. His wife Deepa Jha is also a singer. Their son Aditya is an upcoming singer, actor and TV host.
