We have bad news for The Crown lovers, many of the jewels that you admire while watching the show reportedly got stolen amid filming.
The ‘royal heist’ included more than 200 antique props that were used during the shooting of the fifth season of the show, and it collectively valued at £150,000.
The thieves raided the vehicles in which the props were being transported, in Doncaster, Northern England. The props include a replica of a Fabergé egg, several sets of silver and gold candelabra, a clock face of a William IV grandfather clock, a 10-piece silver dressing table set, and crystal glassware and decanters.
A series decorator from the fifth season of The Crown, stated, “The items stolen are not necessarily in the best condition and therefore of limited value for resale. However, they are valuable as pieces to the U.K. film industry.”
In a statement, Netflix confirmed that the antiques will soon be replaced and it will not hamper the filming of the show that is due in November 2022, “Replacements will be sourced, there is no expectation that filming will be held up.”
The South Yorkshire police said that they received a complaint of theft on February 16, “Three vehicles containing props had been broken into and a number of items were taken.” The police also said in a brief statement, “Officers investigated the incident but all existing lines of inquiry have now been exhausted.”
The Crown completed its fourth season featuring Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin, Helena Bonham Carter, Josh O’Connor, among others.
The Emmy winning series earlier stated that it will run a total of six seasons. The fifth season of The Crown features Imelda Staunton as QEII, while Jonathan Pryce will play the role of Prince Philip. One of the most challenging roles, Princess Diana, will reportedly be played by Elizabeth Debicki.
