Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor was last seen Kabir Singh and has since been waiting for the release of his upcoming film, Jersey. Taking to Twitter yesterday, the actor held a Q&A session with his fans one of whom asked him to choose between characters. When asked to choose between Kabir from Kabir Singh or Aditya from Jab We Met, Shahid Kapoor opted for the former which upset quite a lot of his fans.
When Shahid Kapoor shared that he preferred Kabir from Kabir Singh over Jab We Met’s Aditya, netizens were taken aback and upset with the actor. After its release, Kabir Singh was heavily criticised for promoting toxic relationships and masculinity. Many even called out some scenes from the film terming them as highly offensive. It was one of the most problematic roles and films of Bollywood, as claimed by many. On the other hand, there were some who lauded Shahid Kapoor’s performance.
But when the actor chose it over the sweet Aditya from Jab We Met, they weren’t happy and called him out making a “problematic, toxic” choice. Here’s what some of them had to say:
While Kabir Singh was a “problematic, toxic male”, Jab We Met’s Aditya Kashyap was a calm and composed man. Fans of the film loved Shahid Kapoor as Aditya Kashyap for setting the bar high for men and being a sweetheart despite going through a heartbreak. Many even called it one of his best characters to date, however, the actor believes otherwise.
Kabir Singh was released in 2019 starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The film receiving mixed reviews, most of which stated that it was promoting toxic masculinity and relationships.
On the other hand, Jab We Met was released in 2007 and saw Shahid Kapoor with Kareena Kapoor. The two were also dating in real life but parted ways right before filming Jab We Met. The film is remembered as one of Kareena Kapoor’s best performances as the bubbly Geet and fans have loved Shahid Kapoor as Aditya Kashyap – being one of the first male characters in a Bollywood film that did not promote unhealthy relationships.
