A R Rahman
A.R. Rahman rewrote the sound of Indian film music when he arrived on the scene in 1991 as music director of Mani Ratnam's acclaimed film, Roja. Based in Chennai, Rahman has composed the music and background scores for more than 100 films and also for the musical Bombay Dreams, produced by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Rahman is credited with introducing young vocal and instrumental talent into the mainstream cinema music and also popular throughout the country for his work in various regional languages.
His discography includes the Academy Award nominated films Lagaan and Water.
In 2009, Rahman won two Academy Awards (Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song for 'Jai Ho'), two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe for his work in Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
