Celebrities Congratulate the Team for the Selection ‘Gully Boy’ as India’s Official Entry for 92nd Academy Awards

Gully Boy was released in February 2019 and made USD 37 million worldwide. It is based on the real-life story of rappers Divine and Naezy from Mumbai

Gully Boy which was one of the biggest hits of 2019 has been selected as India’s official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards. Gully Boy was premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany and gathered around 37 million US dollars worldwide.  Starring Bollywood’s A-listers Ranveer Singh and Ali Bhatt, Gully Boy is based on the true story of a Mumbai rapper who lived the early days of his life in a slum. The main role was played by Ranveer Singh as Murad. Alia Bhatt played the role of a young medical student  Safeena who wanted to live life on her own terms. The two were in love despite social and economic differences. Gully Boy not only focuses on the struggles of Murad to make it big but also gives young people hope that one day things will change.

The great news was first shared by Farhan Akhtar who was also one of the producers of the film. Gully Boy was produced  by Ritesh Sidhwani and siblings Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Productions. US rapper Nas also served as the executive producer for the film.

The producer Ritesh Sidhwani also thanked his cast and crew.

The film’s main cast Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were enthralled and could not wait to mention it on Twitter.

Celebrities took social media to celebrate the achievement of Gully Boy

Many celebrities also took Twitter to congratulate the team Gully Boy for their untiring efforts towards making their film big enough to reach the prestigious platform.

According to Karan Johar, Gully Boy was his absolute favorite.

Social media users came up with mixed reactions

Social media users had some mixed reactions. While the fans were over the moon, some people also had their reservations.

Some social media users also felt that nominating Gully Boy from India was not a great idea. According to the people, it was not a genuine script and inspired from 8miles. India should have opted for a more original script like Andhadhun and Tumbaad among others.

Gully Boy’s soundtrack is the life of the film

Apart from the star cast and powerful script, Gully Boy also gathered the appreciation for its music. Since the film was based on the real-life of the rappers Divine and Naezy, it had many exclusive rap numbers that embodied the spirit of the film. The 18-song soundtrack involved around d 54 contributors. Ranveer Singh himself rapped for the songs picturized on him and it came as quite a surprise for the fans. His look was completely different from what he has been sporting in his previous films. Ranveer Singh was styled as a poor boy living in the slums of Mumbai. It also included the actors Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin and Siddhant Chaturvedi among many others.
