Fans of Cuban-American singer and songwriter, Camila Cabello, will have to wait nearly two years for her highly anticipated feature film debut, which was announced in April 2019.
22-year old Camilla is a pop and R&B singer, influenced by Latin music. She was part of Fifth Harmony before going solo. She is best known for her recent singles Crying in the Club, Havana and Never Be the Same.
A Grammy nominee, Camilla has won several awards for her music. In the Cinderella project, she will not only be playing the lead role but will also be involved with the creation and production of its music.
Although the project was fast-tracked during the development stage, Sony Pictures has announced 5th February 2021 as the release date of this adaptation of the German fairytale.
The film will be a music-oriented, retelling of the traditional fairytale, rather than live-action (which we have seen several times previously), and all we know about Camilla’s character in this new version is that she is “an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow.”
Names of the other cast members have not been disclosed yet. This upcoming musical comedy emerged from an idea by talk show host, James Corden (The Late Late Show With James Corden), who is producing the movie along with Leo Pearlman, under the Fulwell73 banner. Cinderella will be directed by American actress, writer and filmmaker Kay Cannon, whose directorial debut Blockers, a comedy movie, was released in June 2018 and received positive reviews.
Sony’s modern, musical Cinderella is expected to go into production very soon and expectations are high from Camila’s big screen debut.
