A strong word of mouth, some massive promotions and resounding critical acclaim has propelled Gully Boy into garnering a net of fifty crores in the first three days of its release.
Box Office India reports that the film went up 45% in its growth on Saturday. Things are looking good!
The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya and Farhan Akhtar and has been written by Reema Kagti and Zoya herself. The dialogue is given by Vijay Maurya and it marks the debut appearance of young Siddhant Chaturvedi.
Gully Boy tells the story of a young man named Murad Sheikh who is living in the slums of Dharavi 17. Murad’s father has remarried a younger woman and Murad struggles with self-confidence but ends up overcoming the hurdles and becoming a hip hop star.
Flanked with some powerful performances from Alia Bhatt, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash and Jyoti Subhash, Gully Boy makes some serious noise about the class divide and tells a powerful tale about the rise of hip hop in India. Critics are loving it and it was also screened at the Berlin International Film Festival prior to its worldwide release where it was also unanimously loved.
