Brad Pitt's Split With Angelina Jolie Convinced Him to Go Sober
Brad Pitt said that he had to make changes to his lifestyle following the split from Angelina Jolie back in 2016.
American actor and producer Brad Pitt has said that he stopped drinking alcohol after he thought he had “taken things as far as he could take it” and believes the move came after he and Angelina Jolie got into divorce proceeding in 2016. The two had been together for 11 years before they thought it was time to part ways. “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges,” Brad told the Times. He further revealed that he attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in order to help himself in a time when he needed whatever support he could get.
“You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard,” he shared. “It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself.” Brad also acknowledges that his personal struggles helped him better understand and deliver the role of Roy McBride in James Gray’s upcoming film Ad Astra. “I had family stuff going on. We’ll leave it at that,” he said. “The fact is we all carry pain, grief and loss. We spend most of our time hiding it, but it’s there, it’s in you. So you open up those boxes.”
James also agreed with Brad’s opinion that the latter’s personal life impacted his performance in the movie. “He definitely used the stimuli from his life,” James said. “Now, I didn’t get personal with him about it at all — I don’t think it’s my business, or even my job — but he investigated the essence of the character through himself.” Brad also talked about his future plan where he said he is changing his priorities and interests, calling acting “a younger man’s game.” He concluded, “It’ll be fewer and farther in between for me, just because I have other things I want to do now. When you feel like you’ve finally got your arms around something, then it’s time to go get your arms around something else.”
