Brad Pitt Reveals He Turned Down The Matrix, Forgot the First Rule of Fight Club
Brad Pitt attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival recently, wherein he was honoured with the Maltin Modern Master Award
Whether it is his divorce with Angelina Jolie, rekindling friendship with Jennifer Aniston or his wins for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt has been making a lot of headlines lately. Recently, he was honoured with yet another prestigious Maltin Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival – which was presented to him by none other than filmmaker David Fincher – the man behind the hit film, in which Brad starred, Fight Club. It was because of him and Brad that we remember the first rule of Fight Club, however, it seems like the actor has finally aged.
While accepting the award, Brad shared, “It’s things like this and nights like these that tell me that I’m old. I’ve been around a while and I’ve been doing this for a bit. I can’t stand night shoots anymore, and I’ll gladly hand a stunt over to a stunt man. I no longer remember the first rule of Fight Club.” Oh no Brad, how could you? The actor continued, “But it’s also nights like this where I get to look back and I feel really, really blessed. I feel so fortunate to all the amazing people I’ve been able to work with who have taught me so much and who’ve touched my life. I just feel really blessed to be here and I feel grateful for this.”
During a stage interview with Leonard Maltin, Brad also shared that he passed on the most famous films of all time, The Matrix. He commented, “I did pass on The Matrix. I took the red pill. That's the only one I'm naming. I wasn’t offered two or three. Only the first one, just to clarify that.” After Brad, the role was offered to Leonardo DiCaprio, however, he declined too as he had just finished filming Titanic. The part was eventually given to Keanu Reeves, who accepted it with open arms.
