The much talked about film on PM Narendra Modi, similarly titled, PM Narendra Modi starring Vivek Oberoi, released recently in India. It came at a controversial time that is the Lok Sabha Elections in India. The film received negative reviews mostly but due to the political impact, gained much talking points. The commercial gains of the film, according to Box Office India, “showed growth of around “30% to collect 3 crore nett on its second day.” Its two day figures are now at “5.25 crore nett plus” stated the trade website, Box Office India.
Political films have done well this year at the domestic box office in India. War films have also had a decent run at the box office. Uri: The Surgical Strike and Kesari have both had a very strong box office impacts. Other films that are currently doing well at the local box office are De De Pyaar De and Aladdin. This year the strongest film to run at the Indian box office was Avengers: Endgame. According to Indian Express, Avengers: Endgame had a "bigger opening than any Hindi film in India". The site states that "Avengers: Endgame had a bigger opening in India than any Bollywood film, beating last year’s Thugs of Hindostan. It opened at Rs 53.10 crore." It has earned 350 crores in India so far.
De De Pyaar De stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh. It’s a dysfunctional romantic comedy in which Ajay Devgn plays an older man and Rakul Preet Singh is his much younger girlfriend and Tabu is his ex-wife. Aladdin, starring Will Smith, is the live-action retelling of the 1992 animated film starring Robin Williams. Ajay Devgn has had a good run at the box office this year with his other film, the slapstick Total Dhamaal, also earning around 150 crores at the box office.
