Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Kesari’ is on its way to ‘becoming a HIT film’ says Box Office India. The film “shows good growth on Saturday with collections set to be around 19-20 crore nett” said the trade website. “This will give it figures of around 57-58 crore nett for the first three days which is a little less than Total Dhamaal which was a normal Fri- Sun weekend while this is Thu-Sat. the growth will be around the 15% mark on Saturday.”
Directed by Anurag Singh, Akshay stars as Hawaldar Ishar Singh who mans the fort of Saragarhi where one of history’s iconic last stands took place. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra in a special appearance as she plays Ishar Singh’s wife who appears to him in visions. Kesari also faces current competition with Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu’s Badla and Marvel Comics’ Captain Marvel, which have also done well at the box office.
In comparison to Total Dhamaal as well, Akshay’s film is doing better. Other films that have done well this year are Uri: The Surgical Strike that did a total business of 242 crores. The film starred Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam and was the cinematic depiction of the surgical strikes in Pakistan.
Ajay Devgn’s Total Dhamaal earned 115 crores in 10 days which was a slapstick comedy starring Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor as well. Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy earned 128 crores in 18 days and crossed 200 crores worldwide. Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon’s Luka Chuppi did a business of 71 crores.
