Bollywood stars celebrate the annual ceremony of Raksha Bandhan

Yesterday saw stars post messages of love to their siblings for the Hindu ceremony

Some of our favorite Bollywood celebrities took to social media yesterday to share their messages of appreciation to their siblings as part of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations.

Raksha Bandhan is a day where sisters tie a rakhi (string) around the wrist of their brothers, who then return the gesture in the form of a gift to symbolise bonding and protection. Although traditionally this is for siblings, the ceremony has evolved to apply for close friends and even wider family.

Read on to see which celebrities practised Raksha Bandhan.

Priyanka Chopra

Chopra shared a stunning throwback image from her wedding day where she is wearing a beautiful red lehenga that her brothers are holding up for her. “Happy Raksha Bandhan to everyone celebrating and to my incredible brood of brothers,” she said, before joking about waiting for her brothers to give her gifts.

Sanjay Dutt

Rarely posting about his personal life, Sanjay Dutt took to Instagram to share a picture of him with his two younger sisters. The caption reads, “Although younger to me, you two have always been my biggest support system, motivating me and being there for me throughout my life. I love you both so much. Happy Raksha Bandhan”.

Karishma Kapoor

Karishma posted a video of herself to Instagram wishing “Happy Raksha Bandhan to all my brothers and sisters” before blowing a kiss to her fans. She tagged Kareena Kappor, Armaan Jain, Aadar Jain, Riddhima Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and many more in her post. She sported a pink t shirt with the logo ‘Female Boss’ written across the front in the video.

Malaika Arora

Malaika celebrated by posting a picture of her sister with the caption, “You are not just my baby sister...u are my best friend when I need one, an elder sister when I feel like being a child again, a sounding board when I feel like venting and a brother so I never miss having one. We are everything to eachother and words fall short to describe our eternal bond. Happy Rakshabandhan to you! Here's to the multiple roles you play in my life...a sister, a brother, a friend and many more.” Her post celebrates her sisterhood as she does not have a brother.

'Tum hi ho bandhu, sakha tum hi'. It's not just a prayer, it's not just a song...it's what defines our boundless relation. You are not just my baby sister...u are my best friend when I need one, an elder sister when I feel like being a child again, a sounding board when I feel like venting and a brother so I never miss having one. We are everything to eachother and words fall short to describe our eternal bond. Happy Rakshabandhan to you! Here's to the multiple roles you play in my life...a sister, a brother, a friend and many more. Whether it's the sisterhood of undying support or bro code to protect eachother fiercely...we have it all. The best of both worlds in one package, that's how I'd like to describe you. It can be the entire world against us and I'll still be confident of winning with you by my side. You are a sister who always has my back and a brother who'll protect me at any cost. This Rakshabandhan I'd like to thank you for playing multiple roles in my life- a sister, a brother, a friend and many more.
