Madhuri Dixit is one of Bollywood’s most celebrated stars. Known for her unparalleled grace, captivating smile, and exceptional acting talent, she became a symbol of beauty and talent during the late 1980s and 1990s. During this period, her film Dayavan co-starring Vinod Khanna was released but landed in controversy over a kissing scene.
Today’s films often embrace bold and s*xual themes, but that was not the norm in the 80s and 90s. Therefore, when Madhuri Dixit and Vinod Khanna shared passionate kisses and intimate moments on screen, it certainly garnered significant attention and raised eyebrows.
Even though the script demanded it, fans were shocked to see the Dhak Dhak girl getting intimate. Madhuri Dixit, later, during an interview with a publication revealed that she regretted doing the scene with Vinod Khanna. MensXp quoted the actress as saying, “Well, when I look back, I think I should have just said, ‘No, I don’t want to do it.’ But then perhaps I got a bit intimidated to do it. It was like, I am an actress, and the director has conceived the scene in a particular way so maybe my not doing it would hamper the narrative.”
“Also since I was not from a film family background I didn’t know anything about the industry and its operative norms. I didn’t know at that time that you could say no to do kissing scenes. So I did it. But later when I saw the film, I wondered why did I do it? The kiss didn’t add anything to the film. So I decided to put my foot down on doing any more kissing scenes and never did another again,” she further said.
