Shahid Kapoor responds to claims of taking a dig at superstar Salman Khan; says he would never disrespect ‘someone so established and senior’

'Deva' actor Shahid Kapoor has clarified that his "some actors are full of themselves" comment was taken out of context and that he'd never take a jibe at someone as senior as megastar Salman Khan.

Kabir Singh star Shahid Kapoor is going all out to ensure that his forthcoming release, Deva, opens to decent numbers on the ticket windows on January 31, 2025. The actor is occupied with promoting his film through podcasts and interviews. However, the Padmaavat star raised eyebrows when he stated that “some actors are full of themselves” in one of his latest interviews. Although he didn’t name names, many online assumed that he was perhaps taking a dig at none other than Bollywood’s biggest star, Salman Khan.

However, Shahid has now addressed the speculation surrounding his comment since it managed to irk some of Khan’s most loyal fans online.

Shahid Kapoor clarifies he didn’t take a dig at Salman Khan

Shahid Kapoor indulged in a conversation with HT City while promoting his forthcoming action drama, Deva, in New Delhi. When the host claimed it was alleged that the Udta Punjab star had recently taken a dig at mega movie star Salman Khan, Shahid gestured ‘no’ and said, “Haan but mujhe ek-do logo ne message kiya aisa soch ke. Main toh honestly naa aise hi baat kar raha tha, socha bhi nahi tha (One or two people even texted me about this thinking the same I didn’t even think when I was responding, I just said it like that).”

Kapoor clarified that he didn’t take a jibe at the ‘Sultan of Bollywood.’ He continued, “But if I want to take a dig it will never be at somebody who is so senior, so established and who I have so much respect for. Just to clear that out!”

Shahid Kapoor’s comment sparked speculation

To put things to perspective, Haider star Shahid Kapoor had remarked “some actors are full of themselves” in an interview with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel. The clip soon went viral on social media, with Salman’s naysayers claiming that the jibe was directed towards him. Since Khan happens to be among the most followed Indian movie icons in the world, his diehard fans were miffed with Shahid’s comment. However, the actor’s clarification managed to set things straight soon after. The Jab We Met hero is gearing up for the release of Deva, in which he shares the screen with the gorgeous Pooja Hegde. Helmed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film hits the screens nationwide on January 31, 2025.
