Nargis Fakhri’s career in Bollywood might not have been the most memorable or long-standing but if there’s one thing she’ll always be remembered by, it is her character of Heer Kaul. The American actress and model debuted in Bollywood with Imtiaz Ali’s haunting Rockstar in 2011 and although Ranbir Kapoor stole the limelight in a film that has aged exceptionally well, Nargis was appreciated for her raw charm despite the fact that she also received criticism for her acting. With a unique blend of Pakistani and Czech heritage coupled with an American upbringing, Nargis has always had a very unique and authentic persona.
Also, Rockstar is not her only calling card as she also acted in other successful films over the years, including Madras Cafe, Main Tera Hero and Housefull 3. The unique Nargis Fakhri family
Nargis Fakhri belongs to a multicultural background. Her father was Pakistani; her mother, Marie Fakhri, is from Czech. She has a younger sister named Aliya Fakhri. Nargis’s life was not always smooth sailing and had its fair share of obstacles, especially when her parents divorced during her sixth year and her father died just a couple of years after. Despite these challenges, Nargis has always spoken highly of her family and the support they have given her during her career. Her mixed heritage and international upbringing have greatly shaped her identity and career choices.
Sister Aliya Fakhri gets arrested
Recently, Nargis Fakhri’s sister Aliya Fakhri came into the headlines for the wrong reasons. Aliya was arrested in Queens, New York, for allegedly causing a fire that killed her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, and his friend Anastasia Ettienne. The incident, which occurred on November 2, 2024, has sent shockwaves both within the local community and among people close to the Fakhri family. Aliya has been indicted for murder and arson and is facing potential life imprisonment.
From what we can gather, it is alleged that Aliya set fire to a two-storey garage which killed the two victims. The cause of death is believed to be smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Aliya has been denied bail and we learn from a report in Daily News that District Attorney from New York, Melinda Katz in her official statement said, “This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno. The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.”
Nargis has not come out with an official statement yet regarding the controversy. Her mother has come out in defence of Aliya and said, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.” Per a different report published in The Post, the mother of the deceased Edward Jacobs’ has revealed that Jacobs and Aliya had ended their relationship a year before.
Allegedly, Aliya reportedly continued to pursue him until the fateful tragedy. A witness to the incident has also reportedly said that Aliya and Edward were in “an abusive relationship”, and this is believed to be a cause of the tragedy. The witness was quoted as saying, “She had told everyone before that she was going to burn his house down, that she was going to kill him. We just laughed it off.” At this point, one can only hope that the law takes its due course.
