Former actress and Mumbai socialite Kaykasshan Patel’s husband Areef Patel passed away on Monday evening, 29th July, due to a sudden massive cardiac arrest. Areef was the Executive Vice Chairman of Patel Integrated Logistics Ltd. His family has been involved in the transportation business since the past four decades. Areef Patel’s father Asghar Patel founded the Patel Roadways in 1959. He later diversified the business to include air cargo, courier consolidation and foreign exhcange. Areef is survived by his wife and two children, Arhaan and Numaire.
Between 2011 and 2015, the transport magnate was in the news as he was falsely accused of theft of valuable artworks by his acquaintance Sheetal Mafatlal, wife of businessman Atulya Mafatlal. However, he was exonerated in the case.
His wife Kaykasshan -- who is currently a philanthropist and a fashionista -- is known for her performance in songs like Jabhi Koi Haseena and Mujse Milti Hai Ek Ladki from the 2000 film Hera Pheri. She has also appeared in several advertisements and as an anchor on television shows like Public Demand, Superhit Muqabla and Bajaj Super 10.
Areef, 47, was good friends with Sanjay Dutt, chef Vicky Ratani and event planner Aditya Motwane. He was popular for his party pad, called The Bunker, where his friends often brokered deals. Some friends of the businessman, who had met him at Otter’s Club a week earlier, revealed that Areef had looked unwell. On hearing the sad news of his sudden demise, several Bollywood celebrities visited his residence for condolence and to pay their last respects.
This included Suneil Shetty and his wife Mana Shetty, Sajid Nadiadwala, and various other acquaintances from the film industry.
