Sabrin Burshaid, an actress and television presenter in Bahrain, passed away earlier today after a long fight with cancer. The Bahraini star's death has been reported on extensively by local news coverage, with many users on social media expressing their grief in response to the news. Sabrin was 34 years old.
Many found out about the news via an Instagram post shared by Sabrin's father, Ahmed Burshaid. Ahmed shared a photo of his daughter along with a caption explaining that Sabrin had passed away and a hope that she would be resting in peace.
Sabrin had been diagnosed with lymphoma, a form of cancer that begins in the white blood cells (of lymphocytes) of the immune system. In addition to the cancer, Sabrin also had three cancerous tumours in her brain. Her diagnosis and deteriorating health led to her seeking out treatment abroad. When news of Sabrin’s illness hit the news earlier this year, her father sent out an appeal on social media for the royal court of Bahrain to assist in providing treatment for his daughter. Bahraini authorities responded to the appeal by stepping in to help.
Sabrin worked in the radio and television sectors of Bahrain before taking to acting in 2014. The star did most of her acting work in Kuwait, where she had been living since last year. She made an appearance in a number of soap operas and was also known for her journalistic work and participation in youth radio channels early on in her career.
