BAFTA 2020: 5 Best Looks From The Night
The Bafta Awards pulled in the hottest crowd and some of the best looks we have seen since the year kicked off. We rounded up five of the best looks from the Baftas red carpet
The leading theme surrounding fashion this year is sustainability. And with the New Year in full swing, the fashion industry too is seeing a shift in terms of what is sustainable, environmentally friendly and how red carpet fashion has an impact on the environment. With the Golden Globe Awards and the Grammys already done and dusted, this weekend saw some fabulous fashion at the Bafta Awards; one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies which brings some iconic fashion moments to the forefront.
Celebrities and film stars and the who’s who in the film business came together under one roof at the Royal Albert Hall in London and celebrated the year of film gone by. The Baftas always serve as a platform for everyone to dress to the nines in their festive best and grace the red carpet in their looks. This year however, there was a special dress code, whereby, celebrities and attendees of the event were asked to rewear and recycle. And mostly everyone adhered to the dress code and there was most certainly some fabulous fashion on display on Sunday night.
Of course, Kate Middleton and Prince William were the stars of the show and left heads turning as they graced the red carpet. She adhered to the theme and arrived in an Alexander McQueen gown she wore in 2012. If you’re an avid follower of Kate Middleton, you’ll know that the Duchess is committed to re-wearing her previous outfits. Aside from Kate Middleton, stars including Renee Zelweger, Charlize Theron, Emilia Clarke and Scarlett Johansson all put on quite the show at the red carpet. And with that being said, we look at some of the best dressed looks of the fashionable night gone by.
1. Kate Middleton
Who better to start off the list, than with Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton? Kate Middleton was clad in a gown from her go-to designer, Alexander McQueen, one she previously wore in 2012. She stole the spotlight as she shimmered in the floor-length gown which we think had a very desi touch to it. The custom McQueen gown featured a pleated bodice with a plunging neckline and was adorned with gold work and sequined detailing. She teamed the dress with a gold clutch and a sparkly pair of heels and dazzled the night away. The Duchess had her hair tied back in a neat bun and as always, opted for minimal makeup. She completed her look with Vancleef & Arpel jewellery and her million-dollar smile and is definitely a winner in our style books.
2. Emilia Clarke
Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke stunned at the Bafta’s red carpet in a glamourous Schiaparelli gown. The black gown was embellished with beaded work and rhinestones and she looked nothing short of breathtaking in her look. The sleeveless dress also featured a deep round neck and she accessorized solely with a pair of dangling sapphire earrings. The actress, who is usually spotted with minimal makeup, opted for heavily kohl-rimmed eyes, a peachy glow and a nude lip. Emilia Clarke really stood out for us at the Baftas this year.
3. Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron left heads turning at this year’s Bafta awards with the pop of purple. She was the epitome of grace, elegance and edgy, all at the same time. The actress arrived in a purple pleated Dior gown, custom made for her by Maria Grazia Chiuri, which featured a revealing bodice with a plunging neckline. The gown also featured a short trail and was cinched at the waist with a black belt. She accessorized with a diamond Tiffany’s string and stud earrings and let her outfit do all the talking. Charlize Theron had her hair parted to the side and gave off her natural glow with minimal makeup.
4. Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson is known to turn heads, be it at an awards show or for a quick lunch date. She knows exactly which silhouettes work for her and is always serving major style inspiration. She arrived at the red carpet in a blush pink Versace gown which featured a revealing bodice with lots of skin on display. The gown was adorned in embellishments and beading and feathered detailing along the bottom of the gown which went into a long trail at the back. The gown also featured a thigh-high slit and accentuated her curves in all the right places. For her hair and makeup look, Sacarlett Johansson opted for matching pink eyelids and a rosy glow. She rounded off the look with a glossy lip, a sleek updo and dangling drop earrings. One of the best looks in our books we think!
5. Margot Robbie
More than her outfit, we loved Margot Robbie’s makeup look. The actress opted for a classic black lace dress by Chanel which featured a peplum waist and lace sleeves. The dress also featured a cutout back and layers of chiffon which beautifully fell to the floor. While the actress may have been playing it safe, it most definitely made for one of the best looks of the night, because who can go wrong with black right? Margot Robbie rounded off the look with a statement black ring and a stunning makeup look. She had her tied back with some strands left loose at the front. Her makeup featured dark rimmed eyes, a bronze glow and a nude lip.
After analyzing these looks, it is clear that fashion is most certainly moving forward as the year progresses. From the long trails, to the lace accents, the bold makeup looks and plunging necklines; the Baftas were most certainly a fashion extravaganza.
