Bachchan Family Weddings’ Epic Throwback Photos Shared by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla

Bachchan family’s close friends and the designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla shared some exquisite details from the wedding of both Bachchan children. Both Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan’s weddings were designed by the designer duo.

Bachchan family is one of the most famous and powerful families of Bollywood. Unlike Kapoors, this family does not have a lineage to base on. The patriarch Amitabh Bachchan was born to the famous poet Harivansh rai Bachchan who was known for his revolutionary ideas and poetry.  In fact, he even named his son ‘Inquilab’ which meant the revolution. Amitabh Bachchan's mother Teji Bachchan was a social activist and also had a keen interest in theatre. However, her domestic duties did not permit her pursuing the career. She played an important role in shaping young Amitabh’s mind in taking a center stage in films.

A through and through film family

Coming from a family of intellectuals, Amitabh Bachchan also completed his education before venturing into films. Amitabh Bachchan went through a period of hardships and struggles before he made a name for himself and become one of the biggest names in the Hindi Cinema. He married the famous actress of his times Jaya Bhaduri who took a backseat after she married the tall and big-eyed Amitabh Bachchan with a mesmerizing voice. Together they have two children namely Abhishek and Shweta. While Shweta got married early and did not pursue showbiz, Abhishek decided to become an actor and went on to marry the most successful actress of his times the beautiful Aishwariya Rai. Today the family is through and through a film family.

Bachchan family weddings

While Shweta and Nikhil Nanda’s wedding was an elaborate affair, Abhishek and Aishwariya’s wedding was a close and intimate affair. In fact, it was celebrated at home and only a few people from the industry were invited to the wedding. This even resulted in upsetting many bigwigs of the industry whom Bachchans were close to. The wedding was designed and organized by close friends Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Not only did they design the clothes of the entire family, close friends Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan's children’s wedding also provided them a platform to showcase their event management talent.

Aishwariya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding

Like many friends and people from the industry, the media was also not invited to the famous and anticipated wedding of 2007. Only a few pictures from the wedding made it to the press and public and those were also the ones shared by people present at the wedding. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla who have recently completed their 33 years of being in the fashion world shared some throwback pictures from Aishwariya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s 2007 weddings. The designers also shared details of the dresses the couple and family wore to the wedding.

According to Abu Jani Sandeep and Khosla, ‘The wedding was an epitome of glamour and grace and the memory of it remains fresh in our hearts.' The preparation of the wedding dresses and the vent took three months of hard work for the designers.  The first image shows Aishwariya and Abhishek enjoying their sangeet with the parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan dancing in front of them.

2007: A wedding beyond a fairy-tale! We are immensely thankful to Abhishek and Aishwarya for sharing these never before seen images from their Sangeet. Abu Sandeep not only designed the clothes, but they added their creative charm to the decor as well. The three months of joyous preparation for this event was a highly emotional and creatively satisfying time for the duo. It was a truly precious, personal and pleasant experience. In the picture above, Abhishek is matchlessly dapper in a blue silver brocade short Sherwani adorned with gota resham, stones and pearls, while Aishwarya exudes pure radiance in an embroidered pastel resham ghagra set that shone with sequins and stones along with a dupatta that was just as rich in details. Abhishek looks princely as ever and Aishwarya remains reminiscent of a goddess in all her bridal glory. The second image shows the handsome groom Abhishek Bachchan exuding every bit of royalty in a heavily worked sherwani and safa with exquisite jewels. The designers mentioned that this look was so popular among the masses that even now mothers bring Abhishek Bachchan’s photo to them to replicate the same look for their sons on their weddings. ‘2007: A groom so dapper, we continue to swoon even after all this time!

Abhishek Bachchan was royalty personified on the day of his wedding with Aishwarya Rai. His Sherwani was a work of art realized in a fabulous geometric Vasli pattern. The inner kurta had self-tailoring and gota details with intricately embroidered Zardozi borders. His jooties too, featured indulgent embroidery and his safa was made of Jamdhani tissue that had dreamy gota details.’

It seems that white was wither the theme of the dresses or Bachchans love wearing white on their special occasions. In the third image, Shweta Bachchan with parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan can be seen talking to a guest. The family looks royal and pristine in white matching ensembles. Shweta can be seen sporting a traditional saari, Jaya Bachchan wearing lehenga while Amitabh Bachchan can be seen wearing regal sherwani as they speak to a guest at the wedding.

‘The entire Bachchan family wore Vasli for the nuptials, their meticulously handcrafted ensembles being an ode to unsurpassed elegance. Majestic embroideries in silver and gold Vasli as well as resham lent regal grace and divine auspiciousness to the understated ivory, off-white and beige palette. ‘

Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda’s wedding

Bachchan family’s association with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla date way before Abhishek and Aishwariya’s wedding. According to the designers, they have known Abhishek and Shweta since their teens and consider them their family. The duo also designed the dresses and event for Shweta Bachchan’s wedding to Late Raj Kapoor's grandson Nikhil Nanda in 1997. In fact, Shweta Bachchan’s wedding was the first wedding event done by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Before that, they were only focusing on fashion design. ‘1997: The bride wore White!

Shweta Bachchan exudes pristine grace in a spectacular floral veil and ornaments at her Mehendi dressed in exquisitely intricate chikankari. A pathbreaking ensemble which made the statement that white is absolutely auspicious.’

1997: A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Jaya Bachchan for sharing these pictures from Shweta and Nikhil's Sangeet with us. Their wedding was the first ever event done by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and the duo handled everything from decor to ensembles for each function for the entire Bachchan family. The Sangeet was an ode to Tradition at it's glorious best. And the ensembles a tribute to classical elegance and masterful craftsmanship. Shweta Bachchan wore a sumptuous gold brocade khinkhaab ghagra with gold zardozi vasli in a leafy tendril pattern. "It was a huge honour to have Mr and Mrs Bachchan entrust us with such an important occasion in the family. That they also gave us complete creative freedom was priceless. It allowed us to dream and execute to our hearts' content and bring to life an absolute fantasy“ - Abu and Sandeep @shwetabachchan @bachchan @nikhil_nanda #33YearsOfAJSK . . . #abujanisandeepkhosla #abujani #sandeepkhosla #memorylane #journey #memories #milestones #anniversary #design #fashion #original #couture #always #classic #handmade #handembroidery #traditional #shwetabachchan #bridal #gold #brocade #khinkhaab #ghaghra #classical #traditional #zardozi #vasli #tendrilpattern #shwetabachchan #abhishekbachchan #nikhilnanda

1997: More from the spectacular wedding of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda! "Jaya is like our sister and we are like Shweta's mamas. We've known her and Abhishek since they were in their early teens, so doing this wedding went beyond work for us and it will always hold a very special place in our hearts"Nikhil and his family were very close to us and our first interiors project was redecorating their home. So this wedding meant a lot to us. It was the first event we ever got to design from end to end. We had a great time. It was a fantastic creative and emotional experience!"- Abu & Sandeep The duo channeled their devotion to detail into every aspect of the fabulous arrangements. Both the couture and the decor reflected the magic of their maximalist philosophy. For the wedding ceremony, they created ensembles that were a celebration of regal grace and handcrafted embroideries. Shweta Bachchan wore a velvet ghagra and blouse in maroon. Tiny booties embroidered in resham, badla and crystals filled the lehenga. A French net dupatta with a floral border completed this deliciously romantic ensemble. And for the mother of the bride, Jaya Bachchan, an exquisite red bandhini ghagra sari with lavish floral zardozi embroidery. @shwetabachchan @nikhil_nanda @amitabhbachchan @bachchan #33YearsOfAJSK . . . #abujanisandeepkhosla #abujani #sandeepkhosla #memorylane #journey #memories #milestones #anniversary #traditional #bridal #red #velvet #ghaghra #maroon #blouse #resham #badla #crystals #frenchnet #bandhanighaghra #floral #zardozi #embroidery #jayabachchan #amitabhbachchan #shwetabachchan #abhishekbachchan #nikhilnanda

Not only this, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla also designed Shweta Bachchan’s ‘Goad Bharai’ (baby shower) dress which was again white chickenkari and shared the images of the mother and daughter just four days before she gave birth to her first child Navya Naveli.

1997: Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla designed their first ever wedding and created a new standard for celebration. For the wedding itself they broke with tradition and made white the epitome of bridal elegance! The duo dressed Shweta Bachchan Nanda in a delicate, white Chikan ensemble. Crafted in real silver and antique gota borders with Zardozi embroidery at the hem, the dress exquisitely complemented the bride’s fragile beauty. Seen with her is Jaya Bachchan wearing an entirely embroidered saree featuring Chikan jaali work in the Tagar flower motif. On her big day, Shweta mesmerized in a veil made of real flowers to complement her mother’s saree. This photograph was clicked four days before she gave birth to her daughter, Navya Naveli. @shwetabachchan @navyananda Photography: @ashok.salian #33YearsOfAJSK . . . #abujanisandeepkhosla #abujani #sandeepkhosla #memorylane #journey #memories #milestones #highlights #anniversary #design #fashion #Indian #traditional #shwetabachchan #bridal #white #Chikankari #gotawork #Zardoziwork #flowermotif #Chikanwork #jayabachchan #shwetabachchan #naavyananda

These photos were received well by social media users as people had not seen many pictures from these famous Bachchan weddings. Abhishek and Aishwariya’s wedding photos, in particular, received great attention as people were keenly interested in the wedding of two important stars. Like the Bachchans, Aishwariya Rai was also a loved star who had a huge fan base all over the world. Unlike her mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan, Aishwariya Rai has continued to work in films after her wedding and enhanced her body of work despite being married and giving birth to a daughter.
