It is a known phenomenon that Bollywood movies are often inspired (and other times blatantly copied) from Hollywood movies. Think: Ghajini and Memento, Koi Mil Gaya and E.T. and Bunty Aur Babli and Bonnie & Clyde, just to name a few. But some entrances in the Bollywood industry have also gotten us to question that something seems familiar, almost as if we’ve seen their faces before. Did you know that there are supposedly seven people in the world who look just like you? Turns out, when it comes to these top-notch stars, we didn’t actually have to look very far! The similarity between these celebs is uncanny, almost as if they are a mirror image. It is probably for this reason, if reports are to be believed, that lookalike stars will be looped in for Qaidi No. 210. The movie, which is based on Salman Khan and his 72-hour stint in jail, will be reproducing his real life on reel life as closely as possible, including his rumoured ex-flames Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. When newcomers Sneha Ullal and Zarine Khan were launched by Salman, the uncanny resemblances to his previous loves were the talk of the town. While we look forward to seeing these ladies play the role, we take a closer look at the doppelgängers in Tinseltown!
1. Aishwarya Rai and Sneha Ullal
Arguably the most beautiful woman on earth – our former Miss India World – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is recognized as an international celebrity for both her movie performances as well as her gorgeous looks. What looked like Salman Khan’s loss after the pair broke off lead to him launching a lookalike – Sneha Ullal, in the not-so-memorable film Lucky: No Time For Love. While the movie failed at the box office, the audience made a strong connection between Sneha and Ash for their uncanny resemblances, giving her a lot of recognition for her looks rather than her performance as an actor. Now that both actresses have movies in the pipeline, we have to say we’re more eagerly awaiting Ash’s return in Jazbaa rather than Sneha’s Bezubaan Ishq; sorry Ms. Ullal, we’re just more interested in the original.
2. Katrina Kaif and Zarine Khan
Is it merely a coincidence or does Salman Khan have an innate talent for launching lookalikes of his alleged loves? Another member of the Salman club, Zarine Khan got her first break in his ambitious project Veer. While the film tanked at the box office, the audience was obsessing over Zarine’s similarities to ex Katrina Kaif. And while one babe has clearly bagged an array of successful films, the other hasn’t quite been as lucky. Zarine is still trying to make a name for herself in Bollywood, with her last claim-to-fame being item number Character Dheela Hai in Ready. Considering her run, Zarine should consider herself lucky for her resemblances to Katrina, as that seems to be the only reason the audiences still remember her!
3. Reena Roy and Sonakshi Sinha
When Sona made her Dabangg entry in Bollywood, an instant comparison was made between her and yesteryear actress Reena Roy. While there may be controversies surrounding as to why exactly this resemblance exists, Sonakshi has ensured to repeatedly mention she looks like her mother, Poonam Sinha. Sona’s vintage performance in Himmatwala for song Thank God It’s Friday is often related to Reena’s in Hatkadi for Disco Station, with the entire look (including the headband) baring strong similarities to each other. Comparing these two beauties, it’s obvious to see why we think they lookalike – but at least in this case both have been praised for their brilliant acting skills and dance moves.
4. Hrithik Roshan and Harman Baweja
He’s often referred to as the Greek God of Hindi cinema with his stunning looks and chiseled body and his films make us fall in love with him, with his dynamic roles, stylish appearance and phenomenal dancing. When Duggu’s lookalike came to light, the news made a strong buzz. Harman Baweja’s debut in Love Story 2015 also gave us an insight into his actual future in Bollywood, as the movie burned into ashes. He claims he wasn’t trying to follow in Hrithik’s footsteps with his dancing or acting style, although if he actually had, perhaps the success would have followed him like it has for Hrithik. We guess some things just aren’t meant to be!
5. Amitabh Bachchan and Sonu Sood
The resemblance of Big B and Sonu Sood was dubious at first, but when pictures circulated of a young Amitabh and Sonu, the similarities were noticeable. In fact, Sonu was casted as Abhishek’s elder brother in the movie Yuva as they felt like he looked more like Senior Bachchan. Interestingly enough, Amitabh and Sonu also starred together in Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, where Sonu played the role of his son. A tall frame and deep voice characterise both the actors, a comparison Sonu loves, as he is a self-confessed Amitabh fan. If another Deewar remake is to ever happen, we can totally see Sonu playing the role given his features – although nobody will ever be as brilliant as the living legend Big B.
6. Smita Patil and Chitrangada Singh
These beautiful dusky women have so much in common, from being brilliant actresses to sharing similar facial features; it’s quite obvious as to why we think Chitrangada looks like the gorgeous late Smita Patil. From the intense gaze, to their nose and lips – the similarities are uncanny. When Chitrangada made her debut, she was instantly praised for her performance and compared to the talented actress Smita. Apart from looks, both are known for experimenting with their roles too and for bringing a new element to every character they play; if one is Aaj Ki Awaaz the other is Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow.
7. Ranbir Kapoor and Pulkit Samrat
Ranbir, the ultimate heartthrob of youngsters, has a lookalike in Tinseltown too – newbie Pulkit Samrat. In photoshoots, the actors manage to look identical and they always make us look again to verify who it really is! While Ranbir has certainly made a name for himself in the industry with a string of successful films, Pulkit is still trying to make it big. An adorable Pulkit, who claimed his break in Fukrey, enjoys the association with Ranbir, taking the opinion sportingly and in his stride (unlike some of our actresses who quickly get defensive). We can imagine why he doesn’t really mind it, though!
8. Dia Mirza and Evelyn Sharma
Dia Mirza’s Miss India Asia-Pacific win was her ticket to Bollywood in 2000. While she’s managed to bag a couple of films here and there, her biggest appearances seem to only be on the ramp, walking for celebrity Bollywood designers. Dia’s lookalike, Evelyn Sharma – a model turned actress, made her launch by making small cameo roles in Hindi films. If you take a close look, the pair both share fair skin with rosy check but the fun fact is that they both stem from an Indo-German background! We have no complaints of this union as the stunners look almost indistinguishable. While neither have really hit the high note in terms of success, they continue to make regular appearances within the industry.
