Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl Expected to be the Actor's Biggest Opener at the Box Office
Ayushmann Khurrana essays the role of a girl named Pooja in his new film, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and co-starring Nushrat Bharucha
Dream Girl, starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, is releasing this weekend and box office predictions by various film trade analysts have been highly positive. Ayushmann’s solo movies Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho collected INR 300 crore at the box office in 2018. His first film of 2019, Article 15 by Anubhav Sinha, also went on to become a hit. Now the Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial -- in which Ayushmann essays the role of an actor Karm, who transforms into a girl named Pooja -- is expected to pull the crowds in huge numbers due to its mass appeal. The trailer has managed to pique the audience's curiosity. A film trade analyst, Girish Johar was quoted in a report, saying,
“Ayushmann is at an all-time high in terms of his choice of films. Even this one has a lot of quirks. With a desi dialect, the makers are focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 as well. So, the film will rule ticket counters and will be on top of audiences’ watch list.”
He further said that he was expecting “a fantastic start” for the film although it was a non-holiday release and that it could earn up to INR8010 crore on the first day. Other box office reports are also predicting that this film could be Ayushmann’s biggest opening till date.
With Nushrat Bharucha playing the female lead, the film also brings together Ayushmann and actor Annu Kapoor, who earlier teamed up for Vicky Donor (2012). In this entertainer, Annu Kapoor will be playing the role of Ayushman’s father. Annu has predicted that this film will earn between INR 178-187 crore at the box office and has also said that Ayushmann is giving tough competition to everyone, including many Bollywood superstars. Dream Girl also stars other notable actors, including Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Nidhi Bisht and Raj Bhansali, among others. Producer Ekta Kapoor has also expressed her confidence in the film and arranged for some paid previews one day before the film’s release.
