Ayushmann Khurrana Beats Vicky Kaushal At The Box Office

Ayushmann and Vicky’s latest outings witnessed a clashing release at cinemas last Friday. While box office figures continue to come in, it seems like Ayushmann has outperformed Vicky this time around.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal had delivered their first break-through performances when Karan Johar invited them to the coveted Koffee with Karan couch a little over a year ago. Both stars were asked one question: Who they consider to be their biggest competitor with each of their names making it to list of options presented by KJo. Since the two actors gained popularity and become household names in Indian cinema one after another, it is not surprising for comparisons to be made between them and their film journeys every now and then. Ayushmann and Vicky’s latest outings – Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Bhoot, respectively – witnessed a clashing release at cinemas last Friday. While box office figures continue to come in, it seems like the Bala actor has outperformed Vicky this time around.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is ruling ticket counters. The film has fared better than Vicky’s Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship, gaining appreciation from critics and audiences alike. According to film analysts, the Ayushmann-starrer opened with INR9.55 crore on Friday. It worked its magic on Saturday, raking in INR11.08 crore and INR12.03 crore on Sunday. Monday’s dip resulted in the project accumulating a meagre INR3.87 crore, followed by Tuesday’s collection of INR3.07 crore. The Hitesh Kewalya directorial now stands at INR39.6 crore.

On the other hand, Bhoot opened to largely negative reviews. It majorly tanked at the box office on Monday. While a weekday and negative word of mouth has been cited to have affected its earnings, The Haunted Ship minted a rather embarrassing INR2.32 crore on the day. The horror drama opened to a decent INR5.10 crore, having pocketed INR5.52 crore and INR5.74 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Bhumi Pednekar-starrer has made a total of INR18.68 crore so far. This means it is still far behind from Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Bhumi and Vicky’s on-and-off reel chemistry has long been appreciated, especially after their first film together back in 2018 – Lust Stories. For now, Ayushmann is definitely in the lead and whether Vicky will be able to catch up is something we will have to wait to find out!
