Arjun Kapoor-Sanjay Dutt Starrer Panipat: Check Out the Audience Reactions to the Epic War Film

Panipat, starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon, hit the screens on Friday, 6th December. Check out the online reactions to the historical war drama.

Panipat is a war period drama, directed by award-winning filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who previously helmed films like Aamir Khan’s Lagaan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades. Ashutosh is known for making films “set on a huge canvas.” However, his latest historical flick -- starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon -- has drawn a mixed response from critics and the audience. The film -- based on the Third Battle of Panipat fought in the 18th century -- was released on Friday, 6th December, and opened with collections of around INR 3.75-4 crore. Check out the audience reactions to the film below:

Umang Kumar Chaudhary (@umangkchaudhary) loved the movie and tweeted, “Last night I watched #panipat and I loved to watch more films on our history @kritisanon is outstanding in this film and speaks very well Marathi. U can't imagine last scenes how it will effect on ur mind,I was stunned how neighbors of Marathas cheated on them U SHOULD WATCH THIS.”

Md Hussain S (@ItsHusanyS) also liked it and wrote, “#Panipat is just EPIC which has all elements to watch war scenes, emotions, performance at his best @AshGowariker is just a master storyteller he did it again after #JodhaAkbar @kritisanon u did the role reminds for years & as say u did best perf till date @arjunk26 @duttsanjay.”

Many fans were full of appreciation for Kriti Sanon, who portrays Parvati Bai, the second wife of Sadashiv Rao Bhau, in Panipat. Tahlil Mashrur (@luvkritisanon) wrote, “@kritisanon ive seen ur career till date. Ive Always believed in u, & 2day seeing the positive reviews of #panipat, trust me, it brought tears 2 my eyes.Tears of joy. May u get more success like this, cz u deserve every bit of it. dewana frm Bangladesh. Love u always.”

Kritilicious (@Kritiliciousx) said, ““The film belongs to @KritiSanon. She is dazzling. Impeccable Marathi lines, decidedly perfect expressions and nuances. She etches a fascinatingly authentic character that will be remembered long after the film is over. #Panipat belongs to her more than anyone else.”

Some people were not happy with Arjun Kapoor playing the lead role of Maratha warrior Sadashiv Rao Bhau. Navin Vicky Kaushal (Vicky_Air) wrote, “When content is very interesting, he choose Arjun Kapoor When content is bad, he choose Hrithik Roshan.. #PanipatReview #Panipat.”

Jay Rathod (@rj0506) said, “Seems like @imVkohli has got more expression than @arjunk26 #IndiaVsWestIndies #Panipat.”

Being Sanket (@satyasanket) tweeted, “#Panipat why why why why #Arjun? Good story, good cinematography, good music, lavish sets then their is #Arjun.. @kritisanon was excellent in d movie. @duttsanjay looked brutal. shabby #Vfx, length o d movie, arjun screen presence played a spoilsport. overall-2.5*”

Some viewers completely wrote it off. Feroz Mahbobi (@ferozmahbobi) tweeted, “#Panipat is going to be a disaster movie in box office. @arjunk26, @kritisanon  I can give it in written.”

Kabir (@AsliJP) posted a few pictures of a nearly empty cinema theatre and wrote, “Now watching:  #Panipat. Hardly 12-15 people for a 11 AM show in a large size theatre. Demoralizing and disappointing.”

Film reviewers have generally given the movie between 2 to 3.5 stars, calling it a tribute to the Marathas and praising the battle scenes but criticising other aspects of the war drama, such as the distortion of history and the lead actor’s performance. An NDTV review read, “The burden on Arjun Kapoor is too heavy for him though he rises manfully to the challenge. Panipat definitely isn't Mohenjo Daro. But is that saying much? It will take three hours of your life and a whole lot of patience to sit through this laboured film." It remains to be seen whether Panipat will be able to attract more people to the theatres in the following days and cover its big budget of INR 100 crore.
