Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Others Express their Grief Over the Death of Makeup Artist Subbu

Katrina Kaif, Anushkha Sharma and other Bollywood celebrities shared emotional posts on social media following the demise of Subhash Vagal.

Subhash Vagal, known as Subbu, was a popular makeup artist in Bollywood and worked with top celebrities like Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Preity Zinta, Aditi Rao Hydari, Vidya Balan, Kajal Aggarwal, Malaika Arora, Bipasha Basu and Athiya Shetty, among others. Subbu passed away on Friday, 6th December, following his battle with cancer. Hearing the news of his demise, many celebs attended his funeral and also took to social media to express their grief. Actress Katrina Kaif shared a black-and-white picture with Subbu along with a heartfelt message, saying it was “a great loss, so unexpected, cannot believe it .....such an incredible talent.”

She further added, “The first makeup artist I ever worked with, taught me so many things, by my side for so many shoots, days ,weeks months . It doesn’t seem real , such a gentle kind quiet soul, u never heard him speak about anyone in any way , he could transform your face and bring out beauty u could not see. Gone way too soon , cannot believe we will never have our discussions again . Rest in peace subhu you will be missed.”

Anushka Sharma also posted a picture with the ‘maestro’ and said, “He was kind, he was humble, he was gentle and he was brilliant.” Adding that he was the “most loved and respected” makeup artist in India, she said, “He made me look beautiful every time he touched my face with his exceptional skills. And will be remembered for all the beautiful work he has left behind and all the lives he has touched. A wonderful son and brother and a beautiful soul has left us today. May you rest in peace Subbu.”

Actor Rahul Bose tweeted that he was “deeply saddened” and wrote, “He was one of the most skillful make up artists in the industry. And a gentle, cultured soul who loved his work. The industry is the poorer by his absence. Rest in peace.” Meanwhile, several celebrity stylists, such as Tanya Ghavri, also mourned his death. Tanya wrote, “I have been fortunate enough and blessed to have known him professionally and had long talks with him about life and the most insightful advice from him about everything.”
