LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: BOLLYWOOD
The evergreen actor, fondly called ‘Jumping Jack’, will be honoured
He is one of the legends of Indian cinema. With an illustrious career spanning almost 40 years, Jeetendra was one of the film industry’s first superstars. Born Ravi Kapoor, Jeetendra (his screen name) created a very special place in his fans’ hearts, thanks to his heartfelt performances and fabulous dances. His energetic dance moves in films like Farz, Himmatwala, Tohfa and Mawaali made him the darling of the masses in the ’70s and early ’80s. But he had a sensitive side to him as well. It took an acclaimed writer, lyricist and filmmaker like Gulzar who signed him up for low-budget but meaningful films to bring that side of Jeetendra to the fore. Jeetu lived up to his director’s expectation, with movies such as Parichay, Kinaara and Khushboo bearing testimony to his versatility as he wowed the critics and audiences alike in a very deglamourised avatar. Way before Salman Khan made it fashionable to remake Southern blockbusters, Jeetendra worked with Tollywood productions and it wouldn’t be wrong to state that he has played a huge role in the success of divas like Sridevi and Jaya Prada in Bollywood. The ageless star’s list of blockbusters is impressive and the popularity and respect he commands is as much a tribute to his personal charisma as it is to his talent. Now the Chairman of Balaji Telefilms, Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment, he continues to contribute to the worlds of film and television. Masala! Awards will honour him with a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement trophy for his incredible innings in Bollywood.
