Anil Kapoor Initially Refused to Star in 1942: A Love Story. Here's Why
Anil Kapoor who has spent over 4 decades in the industry opened up about why he initially refused to sign 1942: A Love Story, which went on to become one of the biggest film of the 90s
Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor has been in the industry for over 4 decades now. Making his debut in the 1979’s Hamare Tumhare, the actor has come a long way. Some of his films such as Mr. India, Tezaab, and Taal went on to become superhits. Many still remember him from 1942: A Love Story in which he starred opposite Manisha Koirala and Jackie Shroff. However, in a recent interview, the ageless actor revealed that he had earlier refused to do the film - which ended up becoming one of the biggest films of the 90s.
Elaborating on the same, Anil shared, "1942: A Love Story was the only love story I did. I was very uncomfortable. Initially, I refused to do the film. I told them clearly that I wouldn't be able to do such a role. I even suggested Aamir Khan and Bobby Deol for the role. I asked them, from which angle do I look romantic? I was already a father of 3 kids at that time. But they convinced me. Today I feel good that I did it. I worked really hard, lost weight, cut my hair, trimmed my moustache and worked on my costume to create the character. It was one of my most romantic films ever made. It had beautiful songs like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Kuch Na Kaho and Rim Jhim, which people remember till date. Now when I see the film, I can't imagine anybody else doing that role."
Having spent many years in the decade, Anil also opened up on how he had to adapt with the changing times. He explained, "I feel I can relate to the kind of films that are being made now - like Dil Dhadakne Do, in which I worked with Zoya Akhtar. I am doing my first historical film with Karan Johar, called Takht. I haven't done a film like that before and I think it will be fun." Anil will be next seen in Anees Bazmee's Pagalpanti with John Abraham, Ileana D'cruz and many others - which is all set to hit screens on November 22.
