The annual Hindu festival of Durga Puja (also called Durgotsava or Agamani), which marks the victory of good over evil, is taking place across India. The festival is celebrated with prayers offered at temples, religious music and feasts. Several Bollywood celebrities have joined the celebrations and have been sharing updates during the festive season. Bollywood actresses Kajol and Rani Mukerji, who are cousins, got together to celebrate Durga Ashtami (eighth day of Navaratri or Durga Puja) on Sunday with their family, including their cousin director Ayan Mukerji, Kajol’s sister Tanishaa and mother Tanuja. Kajol posted pictures from the family gathering, writing, “With all the background noise the pujas are and always will be about family.... Miracles do happen Happy Ashtami... Jai Mata Di.”

Amitabh Bachchan, accompanied by his wife Jaya Bachchan was also present at the gathering and shared some pictures of himself, tweeting, “.. and the Durga Pooja at old friends and new friends .. and a feel of the divinity of the day and the days to come ….”
Priyanka Chopra was also spotted at this event. Meanwhile, Bengali film actress and Trinamool Congress lawmaker Nusrat Jahan was seen celebrating Durga Ashtami in Kolkata, dancing with a group of women at the Suruchi Sangha Pandal, while her husband Nikhil Jain played the dhol. Posting a picture on her Instagram page, she wrote, “Ashthami te #suruchisangha with beloved hubby @nikhiljain09 and dada #aroopbiswas #durgapuja #truebong #secularbengal.”
Shilpa Shetty Kundra, accompanied by her son Vihaan, marked the occasion a little differently. She posted a picture on her Instagram page, where she can be seen feeding young girls. She captioned the photo as follows, "The wait is finally over as the Goddess who rides on the lion has arrived. There should be no sorrows in my life and I pray that your life be full of happiness. Happy Durga Ashtami to all my instafam."
