There are unconfirmed reports filtering around that a sequel to the 2005 hit Bunty Aur Babli. However, sources say these stories are not only ill-conceived but also premature. A source in the know informs, “It is not even a thought. Why would anyone want to make a sequel to a film that came 14 years ago unless there is a good reason for it, meaning a solid script? And there isn’t even a germ of an idea regarding this.”
The two primary actors in the original film Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan who played the principal male protagonists are not aware of any plans to a sequel to the only film where they were not cast as father and son.
Moreover there were reports that Saif Ali Khan was being roped in for the sequel. Sources discount any possibility of Saif being roped in. “There’s no script. So where is the possibility of casting anyone?” says the source.
Shaad Ali who directed the original Bunty Aur Babli film cuts down all possibilities of a sequel. He says, “I am not directing that (the sequel to Bunty Aur Babli).”
Bunty Aur Babli was a huge hit when it released back in the day. Featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji as a conman and con-woman, the romantic comedy brought out the best in the stars. The surprise packet was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in an item song, Karja Re that featured both Abhishek and Amitabh with her. The song went on to becoming an iconic number.
