Urmila Matondkar bundled in a white bathrobe when we meet her, and, honestly, she looks like a doll. She was waiting for her hair and make-up to be done before heading to the Masala! Awards and hence the choice of clothes. Before we know it, she's pushing a plateful of pastries upon on. "That's what I've been eating all day," she says with a laugh. Really? Urmila, of the super-slim body, eats pastries all day? This we've got to investigate, and thus began an interview.
What do you enjoy doing when you're in Dubai?
What everyone loves doing when they're here – shopping! You know I haven't been to the Dubai Mall yet and I realised that it's been sometime since I came to Dubai. I was invited to the opening of Atlantis but couldn't make it. So it's great to be here now. Most of the times I've come here in the past, things were so busy. I remember I was at DIFF one year and I didn't even get out of the car at the hotel on my way. My luggage was just sent off to the hotel. This time, I've been to the Burj Al Arab. And of course I'm staying at Atlantis, the Palm, which is so beautiful. They really indulge their guests and know how to spoil them.
Why don't we see you in movies these days?
There comes a time in life when you want to shift gears. I was always a fab student, I'm quite a multi-faceted person. I became an actress by default. And I always knew that actings isn't the be-all and end-all in life. I want to widen my horizons now. When I first joined the industry, there was no time to blink. Now I find time to do lots of things I've always wanted to. I want to make the most of my life.
