Dhanush’s international debut titled The Extraordinary Journey of The Fakir (TEJOTF) is ready to hit the big screens on May 30. The makers wanted to cast Uma Thurman alongside the South star. However, the Hollywood actress isn’t part of the project anymore, reports DNA.
In fact, French actress Bérénice Bejo has been chosen for the role.
The comedy-drama, directed by Ken Scott, is based on French author Romain Puertolas’ 2013 novel The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe. The English-French film stars Dhanush in the lead role. He plays Ajatashatru Lavash Patel (Aja), a magician. It also features Somalian-American actor Barkhad Abdi, who was nominated for the Oscars in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the Tom Hanks-starrer Captain Phillips (2014). It stars American actress Erin Moriarty, who has been seen in various television series like True Detective and Jessica Jones, too.
Talking about TEJOTF, Scott told DNA, “I fell in love with the project. It’s the story of a young man who comes from a small area in Mumbai. He knows nothing else but his neighbourhood. We developed the script expanding on the concepts in the novel.” Scott had earlier directed the Canadian film Starbuck (2011), which was said to have inspired Vicky Donor. It was later remade in Hollywood as Delivery Man (2013) on a bigger budget and starred Vince Vaughn in the lead role. The movie is titled L’Extraordinaire Voyage du Fakir in French.
The movie has been shot in India, France, Italy and Libya. We can’t wait to see what Dhanush has is store for us!
