Akshay Kumar is currently basking in the glory of his recent hit film Kesari which is a war film. He would also be seen in the comedy Good News with Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Akshay Kumar is known to experiment with his roles and choices of films, and he will soon be seen the 2011 Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana’s remake. From tomorrow, April 22nd, Akshay Kumar will start shooting for Laxmi, which is said to be the remake of Kanchana. Written by Farhad Samji, the film’s script is being tweaked and changed, according to a report in Mid-day.
According to this report, “a significant change has been brought about in the protagonist”. In the original Tamil film, the hero was a man who was got scared very easily. However, Kumar’s role has been restructured as a brave man who doesn’t believe in ghosts.
The Mid-Day report also says, "While the premise remains the same, Akshay's character has been chalked out as one who doesn't fear the supernatural. The makers also reworked the narrative to create a meaty role for Kiara Advani, who plays Akshay's wife. In the original film, the hero's mother and sister-in-law have pivotal parts. In the Hindi counterpart, the sequence where Akshay's character is possessed by a ghost - the turning point in the story - will take place at Kiara's house. Her character will play a crucial role in his exorcism. Finally, Akshay will be possessed by one ghost - that of the transgender, Lakshmi - and not three ghosts as seen in the Tamil movie."
Akshay had also been seen as a scary villain in the Rajnikanth film 2.0. There's a lot of range Akshay Kumar can play with and he has also played a key role in an earlier horror film starring Vidya Balan, Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
