Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has already left a huge mark in the industry in a short amount of time in the industry. Making her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year back in 2012, the starlet has proved her mettle as an actress. Her acting in Highway, Udta Punjab and Raazi was lauded by many, putting her in the list of one of the finest performers of Bollywood. Now, she’s got a number of films in her pipeline such as Brahmastra, RRR, Takht, Sadak 2 – with her father Mahesh Bhatt and step-sister, Pooja Bhatt. She was also supposed to share screen space with Salman Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshaallah, but after the former backed out from the film, it was shelved indefinitely. There were reports of Alia then still continuing to work with Sanjay on another film.

It has now been confirmed that Alia will be working with the ace filmmaker on a film called Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film is all scheduled to hit screens in September 11, 2020. Film trade analyst, Taran Adarash confirmed the news. He said, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali announces his new film Gangubai Kathiawadi which stars Alia Bhatt in title role. Also, the release date has been finalized for September 11, 2020.”
The film will be based on a book written by journalist S Hussain Zaidi, titled Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It tells the story of Gangubai Kathewali, who was the matriarch of Kamathipura in Mumbai. She was a young woman who was pushed into prostitution but turned out to be one of its biggest supporters. She makes money off the trade but carries a soft spot for young women forced into it.” Gangubai Kathiawadi will be Sanjay’s next film after the controversial Padmaavat. However, the film set multiple records straight at the box office and is still Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor’s biggest hit ever.
