Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor left for Varanasi towards end of May to begin the filming for their mythological action-adventure, Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukerji. Others stars who joined for the filming of Karan Johar’s production venture included, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna who have key roles too. Unfortunately, however, the shoot of Brahmastra came to a halt, three days prior to scheduled wrap-up as Alia's stomach bug worsened. The Raazi actress had to instantaneously return to Mumbai as her health deteriorated over the course of the shoot. Yesterday, she was spotted at the airport with her boyfriend and co-star Ranbir Kapoor. Reportedly, Alia and Ranbir were scheduled to shoot a song over the next three days but due to Alia’s sickness, the date has been pushed back. "Alia continued to work but Ayan decided to call off the shoot. The team will now return to the city in November for the song," a source stated.
Due to these delays, Brahmastra’s release has been pushed to summer 2020. Ayan Mukerji's trilogy was earlier set to release during Christmas 2019. In regards to this, the filmmaker wrote, "In the past week, I have learnt all the teams working on the movie, led by my VFX teams, need more time in order to get the VFX right, to get the sound right and eventually the movie right. With that in mind, we are moving away from Christmas 2019 release as our goal for the release of the movie. Working towards the goal that could affect the most important goal - which is to create the best possible movie experience that Brahmastra can be. Our release is now slated for summer 2020 but we will announce this officially once we are officially certain of the date."
