Akshay's son is a green hero!
Aarav Bhatia wins his first big award
Aarav Bhatia, Akshay Kumar's son, was lauded with a Green Globe for Outstanding Contribution by a Child at the second edition of the Green Globe Foundation Awards, presented on the inaugural evening of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit at the Taj Palace, New Delhi.
Aarav is noted for being the youngest person to have sponsored a village under the 'Light a Billion Lives' campaign.
The seven-year-old Aarav picked up the award from Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri with grandmother and actor, Dimple Kapadia, in tow (pictured above).
However, both Akshay and Twinkle were not present for the award ceremony as they were in Germany for a hydrotherapy course. They would have loved to be part of this special moment but they had taken the dates from the doctors way back and it was not possible to postpone the appointment.
Last year, while watching a TV programme called Greenathon, Aarav had asked his father to adopt a village without electricity and supply them with solar lanterns and other energy-saving devices. Aarav has been taking a personal interest in the village and checks on the stuff himself before it is sent. He saves electricity and water at home.
The Green Globe for Extraordinary Work by a Public Figure was awarded to Rahul Bose for his active role in taking upon the green pledge, including his blogging and bringing upon widespread awareness on the issues affecting our earth.
Bose, who was in Shanghai accepted the award from Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Pachauri, via telephone.
The Awards have been instituted as a salutation to the efforts of organizations and individuals fighting climate change through their work in environment preservation and regeneration.
