Known to sign offbeat films, Akshay Kumar is a versatile actor. His diverse body of work is evident in his projects such as ‘Padman’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’ amongst many others. The latest project in his kitty is the sci-fi production ‘Mission Mangal’. Slated to hit cinema screens on August 15, the storyline is centered on India's first interplanetary mission – the Mars Orbiter Mission. While his projects always convey important messages, his latest venture has an emotional element attached to it. Doesn’t seem like it from the movie’s title right? Well, the action hero has now revealed that he only signed up for the Jagan Shakti directorial for his daughter, Nitara.

Taking to Twitter, Akshay wrote, “For several years, Hollywood made movies and TV shows like Star Trek, Star Wars, Gravity etc. This inspired an entire generation of inventors, scientists and explorers. I have always wanted to be part of one such movie. A movie that inspires future generations and one that celebrates imagination and curiosity." He wants children who are of his daughter’s age to become familiar with the true story of India’s mission to planet Mars.

Akshay now feels elated that he took up the project because he believes it is the responsibility of stars to educate today’s youth. " ‘Mission Mangal’ is that film for me... A film that I hope will inspire as much as it will entertain. Based on the incredible true story of India's mission to Mars, ‘Mission Mangal’ is a film about ordinary people achieving the extraordinary. It is a story that proves that creativity, ideas and dreams have no limit... just like the sky!” he said. The film also features an ensemble cast of Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen.  A post from the official Twitter page of Fox Star Hindi read, "Thank you, Akshay Kumar, for being a part of this incredible journey! We can't think of anyone better to inspire generations to come.”
