Akshay Kumar Sought Salman Khan's Consent Before Announcing Eid Film Release
Akshay Kumar had announced he was releasing his film Sooryavanshi on Eid 2020, a period where usually Salman releases his films
There were shockwaves across the film industry when Akshay Kumar announced earlier this week that Sooryavanshi, his cop thriller directed by Rohit Shetty, would get released on Eid in 2020.
Eid is considered Salman Khan’s no-trespassing territory, just as Christmas is “traditionally” Aamir Khan’s domain, Diwali is for Shah Rukh Khan and the Republic Day (January 26) and Independence Day (August 15) weekends are “owned” by Akshay Kumar.
No more, it seems. For nowadays there is no guarantee any more that a particular superstar will be at the theatres at the “allotted” festive moment. Akshay muscling into Salman’s territory may raise some eyebrows. But the fact is, Akshay made a courtesy call to Salman. Only when Salman assured Akshay there was no Salman Khan blockbuster planned for Eid 2020 did Akshay step into the sacrosanct territory.
Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan have been good friends over the years. They have also acted in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge over a decade ago, which was an adaptation of the Hollywood film Anger Management starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson.
Akshay’s film Sooryavanshi is a part of the trilogy of the cool cop series by Rohit Shetty. The first film in the series was Singham – which was played by Ajay Devgn. The second film in the series was Simmba, the titular role of which film was played by Ranveer Singh. Both films have had tremendous box office success. Sooryavanshi is the third instalment in this franchise. Sooryavanshi’s first reveal was made at the end of Ranveer Singh’s film Simmba, in which Ajay Devgn also made a special appearance as Singham.
