Akshay Kumar — who has given several big hits like Kesari, Mission Mangal and Housefull 4 this year -- has announced his new project, Bell Bottom. This is a spy thriller which will be directed by Ranjit M Tewari and is slated to release in January 2021. Akshay took to social media to announce the new movie and share the first look from the film, which is based in the ‘80s. In a vintage-style poster, covered in sepia tones, Akshay can be seen sporting a moustache and wearing a brown blazer and trousers with dark sunglasses. The actor wrote, "Get ready to go back to the 80’s and hop onto a roller-coaster spy ride, #BELLBOTTOM! Releasing on 22nd January, 2021."
The film will be produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani. Responding to a question from a fan — who asked if Bell Bottom was a remake of a 2019 Kannada film of the same name — Akshay wrote, “#BellBottom is not a remake of any film, it is an original screenplay inspired by true events."
Akshay has previously also done several movies based on real life events such as Padman and Rustom. The actor is currently busy completing the shoot of Sooryavanshi, opposite Katrina Kaif. This is an action film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Karan Johar. The film is part of director Rohit’s cop drama universe, which includes Singham and Singham Returns with Ajay Devgn and Simmba with Ranveer Singh. Akshay plays DCP Veer Sooryavanshi in the upcoming film while Katrina is portraying the role of his wife Aditi. Ajay and Ranveer also have cameo appearances in Sooryavanshi. The film, which has been shot in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangkok, is said to be the costliest police film ever made in the history of Indian cinema. It is slated to release in 2020.
