Akshay Kumar Says His Upcoming Flick Mission Mangal Celebrates the Power of Female Scientists

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Mission Mangal, slated for release on 15th August, will be Bollywood’s first space movie.

As the release of Mission Mangal on 15th August comes closer, there is a lot of buzz about this space movie directed by Jagan Shakti. With Akshay Kumar playing the role of a senior scientist, the film also features several talented actresses including Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen. Mission Mangal is based on the success story of Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), or the Mangalyaan project launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in November 2013. This was the first ever satellite sent to Mars by a team who choose their professional achievements over personal battles.

Akshay Kumar took to Instagram to share a photo with the female star cast of India’s first space film, mentioning that Mission Mangal is about the power of women scientists. He wrote, “Be it making a home or launching a successful space mission, women know it all! Celebrating the power of women scientists : #MissionMangal is their story!”

He will be seen mentoring and leading the team of female scientists, motivating them to achieve their goal.

The film’s first poster was released on 4th July followed by the release of a 45-second teaser shared yesterday --  with Akshay playing the scientist who spearheaded this mission, which is considered a milestone for Indian space research. In the teaser -- which was appreciated by Indian Space Research Organisation on Instagram -- Akshay introduces himself in these words: “This is Rakesh Dhawan. Mission Control initiating command for launch.”  In an earlier tweet, the actor had shared his reasons for doing this film, “‘Mission Mangal’, a film which I hope will inspire as much as entertain. A film which I’ve done specially for my daughter and children her age to familiarise them with the incredible true story of India’s mission to Mars.”
