Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is a force to be reckoned with. The actor started his career in 1991 with Shiva and went on to work in some of the biggest hits of Bollywood. Because of his knowledge of martial arts, Akshay managed to land offers in action films and in 1992, with Khiladi, the actor also started getting known in the industry from the film’s name. Throughout the span of his career, he also starred in many romantic movies and in recent times, has moved to comedy as well as biopics – sometimes being hailed as the king of biopics in Bollywood. But despite all that, he’s also made sure to give back to the community as much as he can.

The recent flood situation in Bihar led to a massive loss of life and property and to help the people affected by it, Akshay decided to donate INR 1 crore. He got in touch with Hindustan Times, who took up this initiative to find out the people in dire need, and visited the flood-stricken villages of Bihar to gather information about those who were struggling badly. Akshay has contributed a total of INR 4 lakh each towards the rehabilitation of 25 families.

Speaking of the horrible flood, Akshay said, “A natural calamity reminds us we are nothing in front of it. But there’s one more thing, which is what bit can we do. We should do whatever we can. I am very happy that through the newspaper Hindustan, I got the opportunity to do whatever little I could. It couldn’t get bigger than being able to help those people, who have lost everything, start all over again.” In the past, celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Manoj Bajpayye and Panjak Tripathi have also donated towards providing rehabilitation facilities to the affected.
