Actor Ajaz Khan is known for his stints in ‘Allah Ke Badey’ and ‘Lakeer Ka Fakeer’. However his biggest breakthrough was through the Indian reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’. Known to be vocal about his opinions, the star recently came under fire for uploading a controversial video that could have trigger communal tension across Mumbai. Khan reportedly posted an inappropriate Tik Tok video on his social media accounts. Following this, he was arrested on Thursday after the cyber police station in BKC registered a first information report (FIR) against him on July 17, claiming they had received multiple complaints on the matter.
The police also received a few videos of the actor that have gone viral on social media. “It was found that the actor had created and uploaded these videos containing objectionable content, mainly promoting enmity between different groups of people on grounds of religion. After verifying the IP address of the videos that were uploaded, he was taken into custody,” said a police officer of the cyber police station, requesting anonymity.
Joint commissioner of police in the crime department, Santosh Rastogi, confirmed the news surrounding Khan’s imprisonment. The former ‘Big Boss’ participant is slated to appear before the Esplanade court on Friday. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 34 for common intention, 153 (A) for promoting enmity and under the IT Act section 67 which is issued against anyone who publishes or transmits any material which is highly indecent or appeals to prurient interest. Khan’s case can lead him to serving five years in jail coupled with a hefty fine of INR500, 000. This is not the first time Khan has been put behind bars. Last year, he was taken into custody by the Anti-Narcotics Cell from a hotel for possession of drugs. Back in 2016, he was once again jailed for sending obscene pictures and vulgar messages to a beautician who had offered him a project proposal.
