Ajay Devgn’s Upcoming Football Film Maidaan Goes on Floors!
Ajay Devgn is back with a bang and is all set to play the epic role of Syed Abdul Rahim who was the coach of the Indian football team, a former player and the manager of the National team from 1950 till he died in 1963. Maidaan has already hit the floors!
Ajay Devgn’s much talked about film about Indian football finally went on floors on the 19th of August, 2019. The film is produced by the legendary Boney Kapoor and has been titled Maidaan. The movie will be based on the untold story of Indian football. The movie aims to take audiences on a journey of the golden years of the same. The film also stars Keerthy Suresh. Maidaan is essentially the biopic of Syed Abdul Rahim who was the coach of the Indian football team, a former player and the manager of the National team from 1950 till he died in 1963.
Ajay Devgn will be playing the role of Syed Abdul Rahum and the story will be told solely from his perspective. The makers of the film released the first poster of the film yesterday and fans were impressed. In addition to the poster, the makers also announced that the film is going on floors.
Keerthy Suresh is also on cloud nine as she recently won the Best Actress (Telugu) for her performance in the epic, Mahanati. She is now, all set to start shooting for her maiden Bollywood venture, Maidaan. Keerthy Suresh shared the poster of Maidaan and stated that she is eager to join the team soon. The South actress will play the role of Syed Abdul Rahim's wife in the film.
Speaking about the film, producer Boney Kapoor, in an earlier interview, said, "I was amazed that not many are aware of someone as significant as Syed Abdul Rahim. He's an unsung hero whose achievements must be saluted. His team had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco and Arun Ghosh. It takes someone like Ajay Devgn to play Syed Abdul Rahim. With him on board, I can just hope that our film inspires youngsters to play football, and India soon to bring the World Cup home."
Maidaan's shoot will take place in three cities - Indonesia's Jakarta, Italy's Rome and Australia's Melbourne. Directed by Badhaai Ho fame, the sports film is set to release in 2020.
