On the decision to have Aishwarya dub for Angelina’s character, Head - Studio Entertainment, Disney India, Bikram Duggal said, "Looking at how Angelina Jolie fits Maleficent''s role down to the letter, it was hard to imagine anyone else essaying the character other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for our local audience. We wanted to build a strong connect and bring her character to life in Hindi and felt Aishwarya''s persona, which is filled with elegance and poise would be a perfect blend.”
The sequel will follow the story of Maleficent and her goddaughter Princess Aurora as they face new enemies and allies while protecting their magical lands. Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (in English and Hindi) will hit the screens in India on 18th October. Meanwhile, Aishwarya is also working on her comeback in Kollywood, with Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular historical novel of the same name, in which the actress will be playing a double role, as per recent reports. Her last Bollywood release was 2018 musical film Fanney Khan, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, which was unsuccessful at the box office.
