For years now, fans have been hoping Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will star in a film together. Last year, the sweetly-titled Gulab Jamun was announced with much fanfare and it was seen as the coming together of Ash and Abhi after nearly a decade. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to wait.
The film that was to feature the real-life husband-wife jodi is “on the back-burner for now.” The question is, what will the couple work in next? A hunt is on for a suitable project. Says a source close to the couple, “Aishwarya and Abhishek have decided to not do a film together where they play lovers. Abhishek romancing Aishwarya would just not work with an audience. It has to be a story of a relationship that goes beyond courtship.”
Abhi-Ash has had a mixed fortune at the box office. Their Guru, directed by Mani Ratnam was a huge hit. But Raavan, by the same director, flopped miserably. However, as a couple, they still continue to mesmerise their fans though it remains to be seen if there will be a project that will suit them perfectly. Abhishek and Aishwarya are not the only real-life couple facing a crisis of on-screen compatibility. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena are also saddled with the responsibility of taking their togetherness on screen beyond public perception. Most of the Kareena and Saif’s projects together – Tashan, Agent Vinod – failed to enthuse moviegoers.
