Adnan Sami Lashes Out at “Minor Politicians” for Condemning His Padma Shri Win to Further Their Own Agendas
Adnan Sami has also slammed critics for attacking his father’s career as a Pakistani Air Force pilot. He insisted his Padma Shri win should have nothing to do with his father’s doings
Two days ago, veteran singer Adnan Sami lashed out at netizens for the hatred he has been getting over his Padma Shri award. He claimed that those who are raising questions over his win are frustrated and just need a platform to vent. "When the Congress was in power, they gave me an award. Then I was a Pakistani citizen. Now, this government is giving me an award. I love everyone. There is no politics. Their agenda is something else. They are raising the issue just to give vent to their frustration. They should do it. I don't care," he said. The artist, who is still receiving backlash over his Padma Shri, feels his name has been dragged into the controversy by “minor politicians” for all the wrong reasons.
Sami added, “The people who are criticising are some minor politicians. They are doing it because of some political agenda that they have and it has nothing to do with me. I am not a politician, I am a musician.” He then targeted those who are condemning him in an attempt to further their own political agendas. “They have their own political agenda and issues with the government and they are using my name to try and further their agenda.”
While his father’s career as a Pakistani Air Force pilot has also run into a whole lot of censure, Sami finds this argument baseless and unnecessary. “My father was a decorated fighter pilot and he was a professional soldier. He did his duty for his country. I respect him for that. It was his life. He got awarded for that. I did not benefit or credit from that. Similarly he cannot get credit for what I do. What is my award got to do with my father? It is irrelevant.”
Sami was called out by a handful of politicians including Maharashtra Minorities Development Minister and NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik. Speaking about receiving the Padma Shri award, Sami said on Monday, "I am happy and honoured that a big award has been conferred on me. I am thankful to the people for loving me and my music. I would like to thank the Government of India. The award is a matter of pride for me and my family.”
