Abhay Deol and Mithila Palkar

Abhay Deol has always set himself apart from the crowd. While the girls gave him their hearts away from the very beginning of his career, this Deol had some unconventional ideas to follow. Despite being insanely good-looking, Abhay Deol never seemed too interested in the mainstream film industry. He started his career with the very unusual film Dev D and since then there is no looking back.

Sadly, we were not getting to see him as often as we liked until he announced his recent film Chopsticks on Instagram. It is India’s first Netflix original film. We can sense that this film is also not just another film. He is starred opposite Mithila Palker (Little Things and Karwaan fame). The poster could tell that Abhay has not aged a bit and probably the time refused to leave his marks on our favorite Deol.

‘IT’S OFFICIAL! Netflix has set a May 31 release date for its next original Indian film “Chopsticks”. Directed by Sachin Yardi I am co-staring with @mipalkarofficialand Vijay Raaz. Chopsticks is about “an under-confident but talented girl, sidestepped at every stage of her life, who seeks out an enigmatic con to help recover her stolen car from a goat-loving, crazy Mumbai gangster. In the process, she finds her confidence and place in the sun.” The film has been produced by Viniyard Productions' Ashvini Yardi. This is not an acquisition, it is the 1st Netflix original film made in India! I had a great time shooting for this, the entire team was genuinely talented, committed, and hard working. Can’t wait for you guys to see it! #grateful #netflix #first #chopsticks’

But this first look did not impress Abhay Deol. He chose Instagram to express his displeasure.

‘On the right - the real deal. On the left - the photoshopped fantasy. God bless technology but know the real from the reel!'

On the left, there is an image from Chopsticks first look while on the right Deol has posted an unfiltered picture of him. Although most actors want to hide their age and prefer staying under the umbrella of heavy photoshopped images, Abhay Deol seems very confident of himself. Although he appreciates the advancement in technology the reality is equally important to him.

This post of Abhay Deol deserves all the praise. For years, media has aided in building unrealistic expectations among young people. They tend to believe their favorite stars are actually like their magazine covers. Reality has taken a backseat. Body image issues are increasing due to this.
Abhay Deol is one of those celebrities who understand their social responsibility. He understands his influence and is there to use it to open the eyes of people disillusioned by the world of glitz and glamour. In this day and age, THAT’s inspiring!
