Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurana all came forth on social media to extend their support to Narendra Modi’s call. As elections in India draw closer, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi had requested various Bollywood celebrities to urge people to come forward to vote. He also urged Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli to also support the voting campaign.

Earlier the PM had tweeted: "My fellow Indians, Urging you all to strengthen voter awareness efforts across India. Let us all ensure maximum number of Indians come out to vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."

Alia Bhatt responded with adding the hashtag ‘vote’ and saying, "A vote is a nation’s voice. A nation’s choice. Use your voice. Make your choice."

The Prime Minister had tagged and urged Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar to, “creatively ensure high voter awareness and participation in the coming elections. Because...its all about loving your democracy (and strengthening it).”

Karan Johar responded with a pledge to his 16.3 million followers, saying, “we as a fraternity are dedicated to the cause of creating high voter awareness and will make sure every endeavour is made to communicate the power of voting for a solid and Democratic INDIA! Jai Hind!”

Amitabh Bachchan  tweeted in support saying, “900 million voters, 543 winners. Every vote denotes supremacy of the Constitution. Constitution the Holy book of democracy. 600 million voters of 900 m, less than 35 yrs. The young ask questions about tomorrow, not yesterday. VOTE ! FOR TOMORROW!” Amitabh  Bachchan has almost 36 million followers on Twitter.

Akshay Kumar, who has 29 million followers, also supported the PM’s cause: The true hallmark of a democracy lies in people’s participation in the electoral process,” tweeted Akshay. “Voting has to be a superhit prem katha between our nation and its voters.”

Ayushmann spoke about aware citizens and said that as “opinion leaders” it would be the duty of “every public figure to spread this awareness. We need to vote in maximum numbers and restore faith in the world’s largest democracy. Jai Hind.”

Bhumi Pednekar also responded, “To all the citizens of this great democracy...each one of us have the right to vote, a power that comes with great responsibility. And each one of us must become a part of shaping the future of our country. Go vote everyone!"

Anushka Sharma tweeted to her 19 million followers, "We must all exercise our right to vote. Let us join hands and celebrate this glorious democracy. Go vote! Empower yourself and this country."

Aamir Khan also rose to the call. "Absolutely right sir, Hon PM," Aamir responded. "Let us all engage as citizens of the biggest democracy in the world. Let us fulfill our responsibility, and avail of our right to get our voice heard. Vote!"

The elections in India are scheduled to be held in seven phases from April to May for Lok Sabha, aka the lower house of the bicameral parliament.
