99 Songs: A R Rahman’s Upcoming Hindi Romantic Musical Film Release to Clash With Three Other Films
99 Songs, which marks musical maestro A R Rahman’s debut as a writer and producer, will be released with three other films in July
99 Songs is a Hindi romantic musical film, written by two-time Oscar winner, music director A R Rahman who has also produced the movie. This film marks A R Rahman’s debut as a writer and producer. He has co-written 99 Songs with its director Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, and the story is based on the struggles of an aspiring singer/musician who dreams of becoming a successful music composer. The film, which stars Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas in the lead roles, is a sensual story about art and the process of self-discovery. Rahman has also written an original score and composed the music for 99 Songs.
The film’s release is expected on 26th July, when three other big films are also releasing, including Mental Hai Kya (starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao), Arjun Patiala (starring Diljit Dosanjh and Kriti Sanon), and Khandaani Shafakhana (starring Sonakshi Sinha). This means that there will be tough competition at the box office. The creators of 99 Songs have said that the studio is yet to confirm the release date.
In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, A R Rahman talked about his debut as writer, “Writing is the nucleus of any project. It is the core vision behind any film! Since my movie is a musical, it needed a really strong script to bring it to life and create an impact."
99 Songs, which will also be presented in Tamil and Telugu, is not a biopic on A R Rahman and the project was initiated in 2015. Scripting and finalisation took about four years and the team conducted about a 1,000 auditions to choose the lead actors as they wanted a fresh and talented cast to bring the love story to life. The film has 36 tracks. A R Rahman also revealed that he worked on the soundtrack of the film for 4-5 years, which features some international artists like Zayn Malik.
